Ivo Labar is a partner at Kerr & Wagstaffe. He is an experienced trial attorney. He specializes in complex litigation and insurance coverage issues.  Ivo was the lead attorney on several recent appellate decisions interpreting key California insurance code provisions governing insurance property valuations and claims handling procedures.  See Johnson v. Hartford, 2017 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 77482; Kirkwood v. CSAA, 193 Cal. App. 4th 49.  Recently, he also tried a Dodd-Frank claim that led to the largest verdict for such a case and the largest punitive damages award in the Northern District of California in 10 years (Wadler v. Bio-Rad, Case No. 3:15-cv-02356-JCS).

Ivo is a Contributing Editor to The Wagstaffe Group Practice Guide: Federal Civil Procedure Before Trial, published by Lexis-Nexis. He also regularly lectures at law schools in the Bay Area on new developments in Civil Procedure, Insurance Coverage, Evidence, and First Amendment Law.

Ivo graduated with honors from the California Maritime Academy. After serving as a deck officer aboard merchant ships, he graduated with honors from University of California, Hastings College of the Law.  Following law school, Ivo served as a law clerk to the Honorable Charles Legge, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. He is admitted to practice in trial and appellate courts.
